Very simple for those that are thinking about it----16 minutes start to finish!! Went out for a drive with the wife earlier so I did not get to really let the 5.5 go yet.

Busadave, Many members use green filters as they feel there is too much oil in K & N.
Yes I have read about them----I have been using the AFE (intake systems as well) and K&N in over 20 vehicles over the past 25 years many with diesels that were highly tuned and modified shall we say. The secret and experience has proven this that if you know what you are doing then you will not have any problems with under or over oiling. Some people just don’t have the experience with these products to be able to tell the fine line between to much and too little oil. The best test for me is to use a white paper towel and when I take off the filter to clean it, reach into the intake and wipe then look at the result. Any oil residue means you have been too liberal with it and you had better learn how to apply the product lest issues will develop.
The modified diesel engines including my current Cummins move quite a bit of air and if you over oil those then WOW is all I can say. My best friend over oiled his (Duramax put more on it when it was new) and when I looked at the next weekend noticed the dark color and asked what happened? He thought if a little is good more is better!! We cleaned the intake and the filter – water looked like an oil slick going down the driveway lol!
One other tip to use after rinsing these filters is to set them in the middle of the exhaust fan on your outside ac unit. These might be a little small and may blow around but the cone type will dry in about 15 – 20 minutes.

i would be too scared that by that time i would check how much oil has gotten by, it is already in the maf of the slk and too late to do anything about it.
In general, it is not a good idea to use any heat to dry cotton filters as they will eventually shrink, causing the passages to become bigger that they should be and allowing larger particles of dirt to get through. It would be a better idea to let them sit on a cotton towel to help absorb the water and dry it off. It is also a good idea to keep the original paper filter so you can still drive the vehicle while the K&N is drying. That is what I did for my JEEP.
