Not a bad price for a great turn key system. Price comparable to factory system with better, updated features. The radio alone on eBay is around $1100 to $1200. Many great features, one I like best is the "Garmin" based nav. I'm sure Best Buy does some good work for basic electronics install, but I wouldn't trust them with my SLK. Overall, money well spent, outstanding results. Thanks for the info.

Had a look at the Peripheral Electronics steering wheel control adapter you mentioned. Think when I first started looking into installing my aftermarket head unit, I came across this but never bothered to install it. Its good to know it does work with the SLK though, and I'm now thinking of maybe playing around with it.
Do you know where the installer installed the LED transmitter for the SWC adapter?
Yep...this system is sweet! Thanks for sharing this info. I will be letting the husband know that this is what I want for our anniversary. Oh, but wait...I've got to get a replacement SLK280 first. Yeah, mine was totaled on Mother's day. :-(

No clue... since I was paying for the install I chose to take it easy and remain ignorant of most of the process. I pretty much chose to go the turnkey route. Especially since this was the first MB we've owned and it was less than a week old (I was a died-in-the-wool Porsche guy for a couple of decades)... I didn't even know for sure what questions to ask or what to look for.

I read your post about the idiot in the bottle. I hope you are back in the seat very soon and am pleased to hear that you and your madre were no worse for the wear except for a few bruises and seat belt burns. We had less than 100 miles on the car when we added the system so it will probably never feel like a true after-market add on. When you get your knew SLK, blow off the command unit and go for the gusto... it saves quite a bit of coin.

Thanks for the advice and the well wishes! Anchorage Mercedes can get me a car in as little as two weeks. Just waiting on the insurance formalities. I am so going to get this system!! I may fly down to the place that you mentioned in your post and see what I can come up with. If they find a car for me in that area, I'll just have the Kenwood system installed before the car is shipped up.
Hey...this is great! My son (20) is excellent at this type stuff. He installs systems all the the time for his friends. They are all so funny...they spend a fortune for there stereo equipment and then gather at each others house to install them.
I may just have a local outfit like Safe & Sound or Pyramid Audio put it in just to have a little leverage in case something goes wrong. Thanks for the link. I want to buy this now, but I guess I'll wait to get the car first. :-)

Your new Nav installed looks great! Do you have your old radio? Mine shorted out and I need a replacement. If so, I'd be interested in purchasing it. Please pm me and let me know. Thanks!
