I thought I would ask again about tires, and tire/wheel packages. Simply put, I am looking at All Season Ultra High Performance tires and am thinking about either the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S or Yokohama Advan S.4 tires - largely based on previous recommendations and TireRack ratings. Pirelli's are lower rated but lower priced. Yokohama is rated higher for noise and comfort, which I would like to get. I have had my SLK350 for two plus years with nearly 9700 miles with stock Conti's and I am tired of the noise and ride. All season's fit my driving style, though I don't drive in snow.
Are these still good choices? I am also thinking about Goodyear Eagles F-1s and Kumho Ecsta ASXs. I wasn't happy with some previous Michelins but admit to looking at Pilot Sports again. Any advice would be appreciated, I am likely to buy finally in the next month.
A buddy has suggested I buy with wheels and have a summer and winter set. I generally don't want four extra tires hanging around, but having winter tires may gain some traction in my mind. I have standard 2006 SLK 350 wheels - whiich I do like, and have no understanding of what to look for in wheels except looks. At a minimum wheels will add $450 to the cost and I tend to shy away - again primarily just because I am not into that right now. Tirerack has some simple 17" ASW Type 15 Silver Plated and 17" Sports Edition A7 wheels for $96 and $99 respectively. I like the looks but don't know if they are worth getting.
Any advice would be appreciated, and I apologize in advance for taking your time with another tire/wheel questionpost. Thanks.

I've used the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S tires for almost 2 years now and a little more than 8K miles. I've been very pleased with them even in light snow. I figure I could get another 4K - 6K miles on the rear tires. The front ones show little wear. I've kept them on the car all year round. I bought a wheel/tire package from TireRack. I went with the AMG wheels, though. The prices you are talking about for the wheels are really cheap, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the info about the Pirelli tires, I was pretty sold on the Pirelli's until I read the Yohohama reviews - but the Pirelli's are still on the top of my list today.
I agree about the wheels, and am likely to just get the tires. I don't appreciate the wheels enough to spend a lot of them -- and I like the stock SLK 350 wheels. I don't want wheels that are cheap looking.
If I put Pirelli's on my stock wheels, I can get winter tires later on those inexpensive wheels if I decide to drive more in the winter.
Everyone I have talked to keeps raving about Dunlap Direzza Z1 star spec, even Luke@Tirerack has said they are selling like hot cakes. A close friend of mine has tried all the popular tires (S03, Kuhmo MX and pilot sports), he said Dunlap Direzza Z1s is better than all of them. I have not tried them myself but I plan on getting a set of 225/255 F/R on my R171 and take these pilot primacy tires off (not a fan). Tires alone can make the biggest difference in the world on these cars.

Thanks, I will check them out. I think they are high performance summer tires -- and I am looking for winter tires. I hadn't considered them before.
