I recently purchased a 2005 SLK350 with the 6 speed manual transmission. I noticed that between 3rd and 4th gears, particularly if accelerating or applying a little pressure to the shifter (forward in 3rd, or back in 4th) that I could feel a sort of knocking or pulsing in the stick. Everything still meshed up okay and overall was functioning normally, but (1) this seems a little rough around the edges for a car like this and (2) I worried that it might be a leading indicator of future problems. I'd like to make sure that I take care of issues like these now, while the car is still under manufacturer warranty.
I brought it into the dealer, where they first guessed that it was a synchro problem (which seems odd to me, as the problem occurs AFTER the gear is engaged). After working on it for a week, they told me that they couldn't get a spacer that was necessary to reassemble the transmission and that they would instead be putting in a new one. Great news for me!
Well, I got back the car, and while the 3rd & 4th gear pulsing is gone, now I'm getting the same thing, perhaps slightly worse, in 2nd gear. Again, other than the annoyance of feeling the shifter shaking in my hand, everything basically works okay.
I'm curious. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Were you able to get it resolved? Do any mechanically savvy folks out there have any good ideas?
My wife's SLK 350 is a six speed. Never experienced anything similar to what you described. Ironic that you still have a similar problem with a new transmission, different gear. It will be interesting if anyone else reports the same problem. Hard to imagine that MB replaces entire transmissions after failing to locate a spacer. But, that's good for us. Good luck.

I haven't driven a manual SLK, but I have felt this in other manual cars. As long as the transmission doesn't grind or pop out of gear, I don't think this is a problem.
I drive a manual SLK and have not experience anything like it, I suggest you get it fixed before the warranty expires. Or get extended warranty if you decided to keep it after the warranty.
