First post here but long time lurker. I am picking up my 2009 SLK 350 on June 2nd in Germany for European Delivery. Very excited and looking forward to touring Europe for 15 days before coming back home and then the long wait to be reunited with the car.
Congrats on your purchase! Before others chime in, I think the best thing to do is perform a search on this forum. European delivery has been discussed at length by other forum members. Pictures are also included with some of the posts to give you a taste of the experience. Would be interesting to hear your comments/see some pics after your return.
I ended up passing on a factory collection as it would have meant a mid-February trip to what would probably have been a wet and dull Germany. One of the first trips after getting my SLK was however a drive down from the UK to the Alps in June last year - it was hugely enjoyable and really gave me a chance to get to know what the car could do...
Out of curiosity where are you planning to go for the 15 days? With such a treasured car I made a point of travelling to countries where the car would not attract any unwanted attention - Germany, Switzerland, Austria etc. Experience has taught me that many cities, for example in the UK, in the south of France etc, are not necessarily the best places to leave such a car on the streets....
Definitely recommend picking it up in Germany, like many members had suggested, do a search on this forum as well as mbworld.org, many useful and helpful tips. The black forest/alps pkg is a great deal, enjoy your vacation with your new car.

Given the dollar/euro rate, we decided that the $1300 for the 5 night BFA rally pack was an outstanding bargain -- luxury hotels, many including dinner + breakfast, beautiful locations. We pick our C300 up in June.

Erfurt,Berlin, Wismar, Bremen, Amsterdam, Paris, Luxemburg, then the black forest rally package ending up in Munich.

I agree! With two people traveling and the exchange rate it is an excellent deal. Looking forward to the rally pack - we are doing it at the end of our trip to relax and soak up the atmosphere before coming back to the states.
As stated, a search here and the other MB forum will provide good information. The ED program is a fantastic opportunity from what I've learned.
