This new Z4 with top down passed me in light traffic northbound on CA85 in Mountain View. I followed it into the double S curved eastbound CA237 exit. The Z4 went into this exit too fast and had to brake for a slow car in front. I left enough room in front to see that there were no cars coming from CA237. Then I opened up and blew by the Z4 easily.
All this was done within the speed limits of course.
I can't tell if it was a regular or an M. But close behind red brake lights, he was sitting duck.
This was at that interchange in the lower left (CA85-CA237). The one in the upper right (CA237-US101) is lined with vegetation so visibility is not good.
During commute hours, these routes are usually bumper to bumper.
Just as a comparison meens the new 305hp SLK350 for 2009 does 0-60 in 5.3 whilst the BMW Z4 3.0 Coupe does it in 5.7 seconds and a 911 Carrera 3.6L 325hp with Tiptronic S gearbox does the same sprint in 5.5sec's.
Thats pretty impressive for an SLK!

I took this same route in the Infiniti I30 today and it was clear in that interchange. I got the track log from a Garmin GPS in the car. The slowest speed thru the curves was 43MPH and the exit speed was 53MPH. This is something our factory GPS can't give us, track logs.
Yea the 2006 slk350 that my wife drives has 268 hp. Its pretty good cause it used to beat my old car, my 350z which had 278hp, due to the quicker shifting 7 speed as opposed to my manual shifting...

Not a race by any stretch of the word. All laws were obeyed. But fun can be had even within those boundaries. That Z4 did pass me again further down the road.
A Z4M may be faster than an SLK 350, but it's still UGLY, IMHO. When you're not racing, appearance is more important. After 3 years of ownership, I'm still surprised at how many people comment (positively) about the looks of my SLK 350.

I agree 100%. Most cars are driven to get from Point A to Point B and are not driven to race. With the SLK, it's nice to know, however, that you can drive it fast (if you want the extra ponies) and be "styling" at the same time.
