I was going through this entire website and noticed something every thread had in common. Almost every post is about a problem someone is having with their car. What I want to do with this thread is list the people who own an R171 with absolutely no problems. In your post, be sure to include the year, model, mileage and options and how often you use those said options. Listing the options will allow others to determine weather or not the problems they are having with theirs is common.
My SLK 350 is two years old, and has not had any problems. The 7G trans is great, Comand with Nav works well, Airscarf, heated seats and sytem and climate control are perfect. I also have the plexiglass screen.
Life is good!
Problems arise with every brand and MB is no exception. The forum may seem to include discussions of problems only, but we are predominantly owners who love our cars. Discussion of those problems - major or minor - help us all; and often provide solutions/answers to our questions.

I've been very active on the SLK forums for over two years. Other than the oil consumption problem on the early 2005 SLK 350s, most problems reported, are minor. My wife and I each have a SLK. Hers is two years old and only one problem. As I remember the air bag/steering wheel sensor, which was a quick fix. Mine is a used 2005 SLK 55, low mileage, with zero problems in eight months.

Had my 07 SLK 350 for 10 months now. 16,000 km on the clock and absolutely no problems. The car is fantastic. Command is fantastic and I love the Sat-Nav. Rain sensors and auto headlights are the best feature I've ever had on a car.
Bliss!

Mileage is quiet low as I have a daily driver and drive the SLK in special occasions or times were I am free, since April the 18th 2006 I have only put 3,820km to be exact and the car thankfully has been very reliable in comparison to my Porsche Cayenne S were it had problems with the Panaromic roof getting stuck, faulty parking sensors and a gas cover not working due to a failed motor.
My Parents have owned several Mercedes's and those are such as a 70's model Forest Green SLC coupe, late 80's 500 S-class, 93 300SL 24-V (R129), W202 C180. W163 ML, W220 S500, W220 S320 and a W221 S350. This has made me found of the Mercedes marque due to the experience's I've encountered during all of these years and how reliable they are.
There has never been a time where our previous Mercedes's have broken down, the ML stayed for 7 years and has put around 205,000km and then we sold it.
In conclusion, I have a loyalty to Mercedes-Benz and I think these are the most reliable and worthy cars to drive.
I've got relatives with the late 50's and early 60's SL coupe's that still work to this day, and thats an example how bullit proof these cars are.

Had mine for over 2 years with no major problems, fully loaded, manual transmission, only had a bad temperature sensor that was replaced. Currently has 8,400 miles, not a daily driver, but I drive it every chance I get. I love driving this time of year, it gets pretty cold (32F, 0C) in the morning, top down, airscrarf and heated seat on setting 2 and I'm off, warm and cozy.

Awesome guys, awesome! Thank you for your replies. If I do get an SLK 350, it will be my daily driver. After reading some of these posts, I am a little scared of the problems I may encounter. I can do most of the work myself, and because my dad owns the shop, I get a discount rate at our suppliers, so parts are pretty cheap for me. For example, I have read many people post that it cost them upwards of $500 for a brake job on the C-Class. My cost on the four rotors and pads is $300, labor is free. It just the problems I cannot repair myself that kinda irk me.
Forums are designed for people to come and share information - obviously people are going to post about issues they have to find out (1) if anyone else has had the same problem and (2) if so, what was the fix. So I can see why people come on these forums and think all we ever do is bitch about our cars.
This would be a boring place if all anyone ever posted was "oh I love my car so much" and "had an uneventful drive to work today".
