Thumbs up Removed the resonator today :)

i had a local muffler shop replace my resonator with aluminum straight pipes. wow...this must be the best mod i have done for less than a hundred bucks!!i wont even bother posting a video because the camera CANNOT capture the difference in sound. after removing the resonator i swear, the exhaust sound is about 2-3 times louder than stock. really aggressive and powerful growl. there isn't just difference at idle, but as soon as you rev that thing up over 2k rpm, it is a loud as sh*t. i can see some people not liking this mod, if they find loud exhausts to be annoying. it was a good mod for me, but may not be for some of you guys, considering about disturbingly loud it is. i guess i saved myself about 2500 bucks by not getting the eisenmann exhaust

UPDATE: video uploaded. please note that the mic on the camera could not capture the loudness of the exhaust note. much louder and deeper in person.

Sure would like to see and at least hear a video. Also, some still pics. Don't know of anyone else that's gone this route. If you're happy, that's all that counts. I can relate a similar story. My wife had a 2003 Cadillac CTS with five speed. I purchased a new B&B all stainless steel dual exhaust system (cats back) off eBay for around $400. No only was it a steal, it converted the car from a single exhaust to dual, and it looked great. It was a simple replacement. The first day, my wife complained about the loud exhaust and she didn't stop until we sold the car. After awhile, I had to agree. Not only was it loud, it was annoying. I even considered going back to the single exhaust, but didn't because the B&B exhaust LOOKED so good. I'm content with the factory sound of my SLK 55 and have no desire for anything louder.

here are some pics of the removed resonator.

i actually like the fact that its "too loud". the straight pipes instead of the resonator brings out the true growl that the v8 is hiding, and sound like an e63 amg at full throttle. and at idle, it sounds like a corvette. i found the resonator to be quiet heavy as well. i will probably put the resonator back LATER, when i'm ready to sell the car

Is it OK for factory warranty after resonator removal? I like to remove but I'm scared about warranty void....

if anything goes wrong, you can always replace your resonator and pretend you never removed them. that is BEFORE taking it to service. the dealer wouldn't look under your car for regular maintenance and stuff.. good luck

Does this improve power in any way? I'd imagine a less restrictive exhaust would give at least a hp or two? How would this sound on a 350?

i believe there is less restriction, but i doubt it gave me and horses. the resonator is actually quite heavyer than i thought. i believe about 8 lbs or more. i have heard resonator delete video clips of many cars on youtube. alot them seem to have a great increase in exhaust note loudness and aggressiveness. the one huge downside is that even with both windows closed, you will be able to hear alot of the rumble at high RPMs. i like it so far, but you never know so keep the resonator if you do decide to take it out.

Congrat's mate,Not sure if alluminium is the best material. As I've heared it can rust whilst stainless steel is an alternative. However if anyone needs to hear a clip feel free to watch my vid's of a SuperSprint X pipe/ Kleemann 200 cell primary sports cat equipped SLK55.

Aluminum won't rust any sooner than the welds, and is lighter than SS anyway.
