My 2-year 3-mo. old SLK350 has +/_ 9700 miles on it. First year I drove it for about 2600 miles only so most of the mileage has been on the second year. The service B came up around mid 8K now it changed to service D. I have never taken it in for any major service beyond the first 3K service, problems with the radio volume control, armrest box either won't open and/or close and stay close, and the rattling of the door. I figured that since I haven't driven much then I don't have to do the LOF on it yet until about 13K. So what is it with the Service D thing? Any idea anyone? Does this mean that I will need to do service B and D at the same time? I want to arm myself with some knowledge before going to the stealer because I don't want to be taken to the cleaner by some service advisor. BTW, for service B the cost is $510.
It's always interesting to see what different areas of the country charge for the identical service(s). Guess guys/gals in your neck of the woods carry fatter wallets than the rest of us. What's even more amazing is how they can charge so much for "fluff" services like checking the inflation in your tires, belts, coolant levels, etc.
Just for fun I called a couple other dealers in the area and then in Richmond (bout 100 miles away). Only about $40 difference between them.
You probably don't have many dealers in your area. We've only got three in my immediate area, so I'm guessing I'm going to run into the same thing here. I may be wrong, but I'll bet the service rates are a lot more competitive (lower) in areas like Florida and California where they have a gazillion MB dealers competing against each other.

With gas prices over $3/gallon now and my only land based trips being south to Richmond and maybe north as far as NYC I think I am just going to have to bite the bullet and get it done around here. Real pisser is I only put 6k miles on it but I am nearing 18 months since the last service. Nothing like a $650 oil change (cause that's all it really is), oh and they wash it for you (was planning on doing that this weekend anyway.
Just set up a schedule B service, West Covina Mercedes, they are sending a flatbed to pick up my car (40 miles away), also dropping off a loaner...
total cost : $299.00
