Just stumbled across these pics on the MSN Web site re: a new Mercedes Benz convertible concept car: Mercedes ConvertibleÂ Photos - Detroit Auto Show 2007 - MSN Autos

Whatdayathink? I thought it was interesting that the proposed convertible had a retractable SOFT TOP instead of a hardtop. Maybe a sign of things to come? FYI. There are also a few pics of the new BMW 335i convertible with its retractable hardtop. No mention on pricing, though.

I think it's just a concept akin to the new S-class. I read that MB is going to offer the S in a convertible with a soft top vs. hard top. This car may have been the inspiration.

Did you notice the infamous Dr. Z in the first pic? Talk about advertising blunders. Those ads annoyed the hell out of me. I don't like the guy and I don't even know him!

Hey bmwnomore - You've got some pretty sharp eyes! The gal next to him (in the red dress) looks an awful lot like Cheryl Burke (Emmett Smith's partner in Dancing with the Stars), wouldn't you agree?

I think a lot of people agree with you re: Dr. Z. Chrysler/MB pulled the ads almost immediately after they came out because of the negative feedback. It's a good thing that their ad guys don't make the creative styling decisions re: the SLK; otherwise we would have ended up with something that looks like the Z4! LOL.

That cannot be replacement for CLK. The size of that concept car is about size of new CL. That will be conv version of new CL.....

The Ocean Drive Concept is supposedly a trial balloon for an S-Class convertible. Aside from development costs of an extremely low-production model (assuming it ever actually reaches production), the other reason why the car is a soft-top: it would be a Herculean task to design a top long enough for a full-sized four-door car that could also fit into a normal-size trunk cavity when folded. Hey mtiede - You're right! That is him! Guess I need to work on my observation skills as well. I should have figured that they would be together since there were a number of other celebrities at the car show. (IMHO, I think Mario Lopez and his partner got robbed.)
