hmmmm.... slr wheels and slr front bumper. Think this is just a complete photoshop of what somebody thinks it coudl look like, doubt this is in anyway connected to what MB have in store for the2010 model.
on that note i do however think those pics look amazing, and love the look of that car.
both of those pictures are just photoshops of MBs press release of the SLK 55 black series (rear picture), and the original press release for slk55 (frontal shot). Both images were created completely independantly of MB.
considering we are yet to see an official pic of the new C-class that is due out later THIS year, I can't see why M-B would now release a pic of a car for 2010 release. Especially if they hope to sell any SLK's for the next 2 years.

Both the front and rear shots are complete photoshops. I think that the whole thing is a red herring. First, MB uses a seven-year cycle for most of its cars. The CLK-Class has used a five-year cycle. The R170 had an eight-year cycle. A five-or-six-year cycle for such a low-production vehicle as the SLK-Class would be cost-prohibitive for MB at a time when it can ill-afford higher development outlays. Second, new European pedestrian-protection regulations require, in most cases, a somewhat higher hood line at the extreme front than is presently the norm. As a case in point, look at the new S-Class and CL-Class. Also, the very bluff new Audi and VW "corporate" grilles attempt to camouflage their higher front ends. In fact, the front bumper of this car looks as though it runs afoul of current U.S. uniform bumper-height regulations. Going to the rear, the decklid dips so far down that I doubt the roof could even fit under it. Looking at the rear 3/4 shot, note that the entire roof and the doors are pure R171. This is someone's idea of a very sophisticated spoof. As for the front, the headlights give it a comical cross-eyed effect. If this is indeed the SLK's future, count me out! I'm all for change, but not for its own sake. Dinoman
Photoshop speculation... Remember when these started popping up for the R171? There were pics of the SLK with the SL headlights.
No, sorry, won't happen. Finished product won't be anything like these two IMO.
What they need to do with the new SLK in 2010, is to make the highest end model have over 400hp, and it must weigh less then the current SLK.
With the cost of Carbon Fibre going down, you can now make an entire hood and other parts of the body in CF for less then $10,000. The hood, which is probably the most complicated part, was quoted for me at just $3000 from a Ferrari/Maserati dealership as CUSTOM BUILT! So doing this on a large scale could make the entire car in CF, and it would lower weight by over a hundred kilos (200lb).
This is the kind of action that needs to be taken on the car. The rest, including a facelift, is just extra. But a VERY LARGE quantity of people immediately dismiss the SLK because it weighs so much. We need to get it into S2000 territory, and then people will go WHOA! (btw, the S2000, although light, has a very rigid chassis... Score one point for Japanese engineering).

I really hope the HP takes a nice jump in the right direction.
The last big gain in power came from VVT and switchable intake. I don't really see any big new technology in getting more HP per cc for un-compressed engines. Getting 300 HP out of the 350 same as the Lexus would be nice.
Curiously, the MB 250 V6 makes more HP than the Lexus' 250 but the MB 350 makes less than the Lexus 350.
hmm~front looks somewhat missing something. just don't give me that feeling of luxury and sporty. and rear look like one of those TVR's~ which isn't my favorite.
