| | SLK 230 - Supercharger problem
I have a 1998 SLK230 with about 43K miles on it. This morning I took it to the dealer because the CEL was on. They read two error codes, the first indicating that the O2 sensor needed to be replaced. The other code showed a problem with the Supercharger, and they quoted me $2700 to replace it. They also said that fixing the O2 sensor would probably turn off the CEL for now and that the Supercharger likely does not need to be replaced immediately, but that it will at some point, at the latest before I have my next state emissions inspection in about 11 months.
I've been searching the forums but haven't found anything where the entire thing needs to be replaced. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Is $2700 as outrageous for this work as it seems?
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
