Winter Tires

Hi,

I am looking to get a set of winter tires and got a few recommendations from friends. One autoshop offered a wheel and tire package for $1,400 US + $150 for summer tire storage (I live in the city). The guy did suggest getting 225s for all 4 wheels, which he said was better? Any thoughts? Good deal or not?

TIA

Depends on specific tires & wheels in package. Compare to packages on www.tirerack.com

I second tirerack. They seem to have much better prices and selection.

I concur. Tirerack has very good prices, good selection and very knowledgeable consultants to supplement your search of their website. I have always had good experience with them, and have found them very willing to help, without any high-pressure sales tactics. Dinoman

On the SLK R171 General Discussion Forum there's a similar thread.

One consideration is vehicle warranty and the use of tires that are not Mercedes MO/approved, and what about non-Mercedes wheels?

I saw Mercedes MO tires on the TireRack web site, but not the winter type.
