Upgrading manual air condition "Thermatic" to automatic air condition "Thermotronic"

I upgraded my air condition by just exchanging the operating unit.

You can download an illustrated step-by-step manual here: http://www.mbslk.com/files/artikel/thermotronic.zip

You'll find pictures with german text, but it works even without understanding the lyrics. The only tool you need is a .20 mm torx driver.

It works on a 7G-automatic as well. I can supply additional pics showing the installation for an automatic SLK as well (after I found out how to minimize them)

I bought my operating unit via eBay for a 176 € (less than 200 US $).

Works great. Looks great. The only difference to the original Thermotronic is the absence of the dash board temperature sensor.

Greeetz, Thomas

Cool. I like not having to play with the fan speed.

I did the same upgrade, but it cost me $350.
I think it was well worth the upgrade.

Did you have to go to the dealer to clear any codes or change any settings after the install?

There is going to be an error code for the missing sensor, but that does not influence the rest of the system. No big deal

As ierax said, no big deal, just that one error code. You don't need to setup the system or change any settings. It's just a one-by-one replacement, plug & play.

Here is one - found on the German eBay site:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Klimabedienteil-S...QQcmdZViewItem

For whatever reason this article appears pretty frequent, so if you don't get one or the price exceeds your limit you can try next time.

Mine was brand new - even the plastic anti-scratch foil was attached to the display.
