Audio 20 and dension gateway 500

I know that most of us with the stock audio 20 system of the slk have a very difficult time with trying to find a solution that will allow the installation of an ipod without having to change the stock audio system. A possible solution is this http://www.dension.com/icelinkgateway500.php

I emailed dension about their product and received the following answer. If you are interested in the product, it would be good to try and contact dension and show that there is indeed demand for their product from slk owners; and that they should try and support the r171 slk audio 20. Email follows:

Hi Josef,

We have not tried on that car during the tests (It is so rare). But if you can send a picture from the head unit and define the differences I will try to answer to your questions.

The product will be available in August.

Regards,
Dension Support

I have been waiting for this to come out so I will send them a message... forget the Ipod, you can plug memory sticks directly into it!

Send a message via AIM to slktyperice
Would this mean that we could add an aftermarket HU and interface with the steering wheel volume control buttons?

Hopefully the steering wheel volume control buttons would work but it is unclear up to now whether the dension will support the slk. Open a support ticket and make them know that there is interest and a market for the gateway 500 from slk owners....

Will this new interface allow display of ID3 tags on the COMAND screen and MFD? Will it also allow control of the iPod using the existing car controls?

Your guess is as good as mine...If it is able to treat the ipod as an aux source, it could allow control of the ipod ,but as for the id3 tags I just do not know....If I have any more news,I will post it.

Thanks for the reply. I have emailed them myself to ask those questions. If I get a response, I'll post it here.

I've been waiting for something to integrate properly with the COMAND as the MB interface does not show anything on the COMAND screen. Here's hoping...

I do hope that there will be sufficient interest from slk owners to get things moving towards integrating the gateway 500 in our slk's.

Reply from Dension as follows:

Dear Andrew,

In case of D2B systems we do not have ID3 tag support.
But you can control your iPod from your steering wheel.

Gateway 500 will be available in August.

Regards,
Dension Support

Am I correct in thinking that the COMAND system uses MOST. I assume therefore that ID3 Tags will be compatible with the COMAND system. I have emailed them back for clarification. I've also asked about approx pricing when the unit is released in August.

Anyone who gets any more detailed information, please post here.
