No, I like the buttons too. Wouldn't trade for the MB paddles.

I'll join this camp as well. For me, I like the buttons. I can't see the benefit have big paddles will make ? Its not as if the gearbox change itself is going to be any different.

I just got mine today, but the buttons are rather confusing. Each one can change up & down, and if the wheel is turned it's not even worth trying to figure out what does what. Maybe I'll have to read the manual!

Here's a cheap alternative, two screws on each side to tighten paddles.

The 55 is different as left side does downshift and right side does upshift.
That being said I am not sure you would be changing with the wheel beyond more than half a turn each way.
Gear slection and speed should be set BEFORE entering the turn.

Sometimes the problem is when you are at low speeds going from 1 to 2 or 3 just as you slowly go round a corner and then want to take off, or are negotiating a multi storey car park where you have to switch between 1 and 2 and have to deal with a lot of wheel turning. Ferrari paddles work in this situation, the buttons do not because of the wheel turn. Of course I have parameter steering and perhaps that is a problem as I think I may have more wheel turn at low speeds. Anyway as far as I can see paddles will not help unless they do not move with the wheel.

How often do the slk55 owners actually use the buttons? I'm told that shifting in "S" mode is much faster. True? If true, why go manual?

I like using the 'S' mode, but I still use the buttons/lever to downshift. Upshifting is left entirely to the Autobox. It is much quicker/exact than I.
