RE: Road Tax - bad news

Managed to tax mine on the day of the budget so I screwed Fatty Brown out of £55... which I'm going to spend on a tank of Optimax and an early Sunday drive out. He'll get some of the tax back but at least I'll be having some fun for my money.

Easty:
I've seen you complain about the roads in Texas before. I guess you must live in an area with really bad roads as, overall the roads in the US are better than the UK, at least that was my experience. Many were so narrow it was scary to drive, especially on the wrong side. Also remember there are so many more miles of road here to maintain. Also offsetting some road problems is the lack of heavy traffic outside of major metro areas.

I was also amazed at the lack of resistance to the high taxes in the UK. Oh well, each to his own. 350's and 55's are fun to drive, no matter where you are.

I'm not concerned about the width.. at least it may make people here respect the lanes if there was a tree and a post on one side and an oncoming car on the other. It's just the aweful quality of the road surface. I'd agree with you, out side of town on the major roads there not too bad. But in the whole dfw area where I live it seems it's not a problem having a 3" high step across the surface. There's simply no argument in comparison to road surface quality they get away with here. in Europe it would be seen as just down right dangerous. I'm used to riding a sportsbike and the feedback through your wrist is enhanced 10 times even more than the 55, so I have enough miles in both places to make a fair comparison.. It's also not a generalisation. I've been to Seattle and California and I dream of those roads in the same respect to the smooth flowing lanes back in england.

Move to Austin, just stay away from campus, and downtown, and your car will be fine. And I'm not just saying that so i can give it a spin.[:D]

Well spotted, so it only goes up by £25. Shame both my cars are in the highest band though [:)]

If you have the 7 speed transmission the emissions are actually below the 2.5g limit for the new road tax! The manual is right on the limit.
Just to clarify, there is no "2.5g" limit.

All R171s registered up to and including 22 March 2006 fall into Band F (186g/km and above), attracting an annual rate of £190.

For cars registered 23 March 2006 onwards, the SLK200 and the 7G auto SLK280 remain in Band F, while all other SLKs (including the 6-speed 280) fall into the new upper Band G (226g/km and above), attracting an annual rate of £210.

RE: Road Tax - bad news

copy from dvla

Cars registered on or after 1st March 2001 which fall into Band F (CO2 emissions 186 and above) will have their annual rate of duty increased by £25.00 for Diesel and Petrol Cars, Alternative Fuel Cars will have their annual rate increased by £20.00.

A new emission band has been introduced for vehicles newly registered from 23rd March 2006. Band G will encompass CO2 emissions figures 226 g/km and above
(350 is I think 241 g/km)

RE: Road Tax - bad news

Renewed my RFL today expecting to pay £165 (had even written the cheque out for £165) not knowing the increase had already kicked in. So I had to cough the extra £25 even though the DVLA form said £165. I pointed it out to the lady behind the counter who could only piss me off more by saying if I had come on Wednesday I would have paid the lower amount. Thieving bastards. [:(]
