How big does hail need to be to do damage?

Well the inevitible in Northern California today.... we had a pretty good hail storm (same day I had the top down 2 hours earlier)....Hail has about dime size - I don't see any perceivable damage, but don't know if it impacted the clear coat.....probably just paranoid.... so the question is how big does hail need to get before it does damage??

Hard to say but if there is no visible damage under sunlight you may be okay. If you have a hand held florescent shine on clean finish and look at deferent angles while focusing a little above the paint. This is the best way to see the clearcoat. Be forewarned you may discover more swirl marks than you thought you had.
