carbon fiber interior trim

O.K. So I succumbed to the winter doldrums and ordered carbon fiber trim pieces for my 350. I ordered them from Performance Products. They are made by MP Designs in Germany. The quality of these pieces is really outstanding. If you like carbon fiber, you'll like these pieces. They're probably the company that makes them for Mercedes. Anyway, the pieces came in a case with nothing but the wrapped pieces. No instructions or anything with any writing at all.

Here's the question. Does anyone know how to remove the stock pieces? I did a search and couldn't come up with anything. The pieces I need help with are the three silver plastic strips in the dash, the brake handle and the door pulls with the center caps.

I called Performance Products to get instructions and they said that MP Designs products are meant to be installed by the dealer and I should bring it to them. Are they serious? They can't even figure out how to get my console to open. I definitely don't want to crawl to the dealer. Someone please help!

I replaced my brake handle, door pulls and their centre ovals when i changed my pieces to designo leather ones. Once you get the new pieces in your hand it will be very obvious how to remove the old pieces as you will be able to see where the plastic clips that hold these pieces in place are located.

It took me less than 5 mins to do. the only piece to watch out for is the handbrake handle. Mine was glued down in addition to the plastic clips. Start from the rear when removing this particular piece.

Do you know it never occured to me that you could get single Designo panels - this opens up a new world of possibilities!! [8)] Cause the brake handle covered has always annoyed me in black, as I would like to get it to match my seats!!! [8D]

So couple of questions:
* Did you order the designo pieces through your dealer??
* Were those the only designo pieces you got or did you get some others??
* How much did the pieces cost (if you don't mind me asking??)
* Any chance of some photos [:)] [;)]

Hi Bev,
1. sadly i'm not sure you are able to get the designo pieces through the dealer network in the UK. Worth a try though. I used up a favour with an MB contact abroad to get these, and it took months!!!!!!!!

2. I also got the designo gear lever.

3. I'm not sure of the retail price but it aint cheap. Like i say i called in a favour ;-) I'll take them off and see what part numbers are on them later.

4. Yeah i'll get some piccies too!

Thanks so much for the info. I was able to replace the pieces without too much trouble. The only problem I am having is with the long silver trim above the glove box. There seems to be little slots at the bottom of the piece but I'm not sure if I need to stick something up there or not. I don't want to break anything, so I'm being very gentle. Anyone????

RE: carbon fiber interior trim

It's easy as hell to do. The pieces behind the steering wheel are the easiest... simply pull them from the side and they will eventualy come out. if you want to, you can use something thin to get back there (screw driver) and pop them out. The one by the compartment on the passanger side is simple too, just slide it down with some force.

The door handles are pushed OUTWARD, it may take a little bit of force. The hand brake is the tougher of all, I used a knife, screw driver, you name it. It will eventually pop out, but it needs a LOT of force.

Last but not least, post some pics! CF is hot!

Enjoy!

Also, Performance Products doesn't supply the little metal pieces that hold the CF pieces to the car.. be sure to remove those sepperately from the silver pieces.

RE: carbon fiber interior trim

Thanks for the help. You were right. The silver thing above the glove box slides down instead of out like the other two by the steering wheel. It is actually pretty easy once you figure it out. The overall look is really nice. It looks a bit sporty but also classy at the same time. What you can't tell from pictures is the depth and three dimensional quality of it. I pretty pleased with the outcome. Personally, the brake handle alone was worth it. Big difference. I'll try and post some pics this weekend. Again, thanks for all the advice.
