Audio volume increasing by itself to a painful level
This is now happened 3 times in the last 2 weeks.
Twice while driving, once with engine stopped.
Playing a CD (different CD each time), the volume just starts increasing by itself, getting louder and louder (like someone is holding the Vol Up button on the steering wheel).
To the point where it is painful (and I like loud music!) and dangerously disorienting.
I use the button to Vol down. Once after that a short while later, it appeared the volume went lower by itself (i.e. like the Vol down input I put in via the button, took effect against the original volume BEFORE it ramped itself up).
7 months and 4500 miles.
Anyone experienced anything like this?
Obviously, very intermittent (so far), so I am hesitant to have Service have a go at it.
RE: Audio volume increasing by itself to a painful level
The volume up and down are micro switches. So it could be on the steering wheel or on the HU. One of these is faulty.
My Infiniti/Clarion radio had similar problem. It won't increase volume. The volume down switch must be closing as I tried to rotate to do volume up. If was a 7 year old car and I simply changed the faceplate containing the volume switches.
RE: Audio volume increasing by itself to a painful level
N80/SCM (steering column Module) is a CAN B and CAN C device. The volume is controlled by N93/1 AGW. So the "volume up" comand packet has to pass thru CAN B gateways to get to N93/1. These various gateways are non-discriminatory in passing data. If any of these are repeating packets, the car literally will go crazy.
So IMHO, it should be from the source, the buttons on the wheel or the volume knob micro switches on the HU.
