Link for removing thingies behind the rear tires

Can you please send me the link for removing the glue and double tape that remains after you remove those silly thingies behind the rear wheels? I used a hair dryer and was able to take them out with no problems. I do not know what to do to remove that nasty stuff [:(!] and by the way, I used Goo Gone, useless!

If it's your first time using Goo Gone, try again.

Make sure you let it soak into the tape for 15-30 minutes before attempting to remove.

RE: Link for removing thingies behind the rear tires

Hey Bazman - By "thingies," do you mean those plastic appendages that are attached to the rear wheel wells? [?] If that's what you're referring to, I never even noticed them until you brought them up. Went down to the garage and sure enough, they're there. I wiped my fingers on the inside surface and it looks like they prevent a lot of dirt from flying onto the rear fender. I'm probably going to leave them because I'd probably damage the car if I tried to remove them. Plus, because I didn't notice them before so they obviously don't bother me.

Just curious. Is everyone else out there removing their "thingies?" [?]

I will leave my "thingies" to do their "thingie", I looked at them and they don't bother me at all. Nice to think they have some function.

I don't have any 'thingies' behind the rear wheels on my 2005 SLK. And, I looked carefully with a torch.

Do they have any writing on them?

Why do some people thing they should be removed...and why were they put there in the first place?

no writing on them.

they are there for legal reasons in certain markets as the rear tires protude too far because of their width.

The SLK200 tires are likely small enough so it doesn't need them. Having to use them is probably a slight flaw in the original design and was not noticed until it was too late. I believe that the first 04 SLK's did not have them. They do look kind of tacked on but I going to leave mine. Here is a picture of them.

Even though I don't have them on my 200 I think they look OK on other models. I don't think I would remove them.

I did not have them on my 350 picked up 10/1/04 in Euro-delivery and prefer it without them...don't notice any great amount of dirt from the tires...[;)]
