On December 1st, Canadians will finally be able to legally receive Sirus Radio. Does anyone know if our SLK's will be wired for us to add this option or will we need to get portable units?

I would contact MB of Canada at 800-387-0100 and/or http://www.mercedes-benz.ca/index.cfm?Language=English&id=4604 and ask. You would need to act fast to be sure it is installed at the VPC. Also I love Orion so please post lots of pictures of your car.[8D]

For those in Canada with MB vehicles, this is not favorable news:
Dear Mr. xxx,
Thank you for your inquiry. Mercedes-Benz vehicles will be pre-wired for
satellite radio effective for model year 2007. Unfortunately, earlier
model vehicles are not pre-wired for satellite radio and cannot be
retrofitted for satellite radio. A standard radio (this is the same radio
used in all markets) which includes the SAT button was installed at the
factory for most Canadian specific vehicles, however, it is a
non-functional button as the vehicle does not have the wiring harness and
the SAT receiver.
My apologies that we couldn't provide more favourable news at this time.

I don't get it. When you buy a 2006 SLK with the entertainment package in the US, you get satellite radio (Sirius) and i-Pod wiring. We pay more for our cars and options here and we cannot even have satellite radio as a retrofit package. That's nonsense. And if the Canadian SLK is not Sirius-ready, how come the Comand system has a position for satellite radio. This is so infuriating. [:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]

I can understand your frustration. As the MB email says, the reason for the Sat button is that the same head unit is used in all regions. Don't feel too bad about paying more. Remember that "iPod Pre-Wiring" is pretty meaningless. We still have to buy a $300 kit (and if done by service pay over $300 for installation.) I fail to see how that is "pre-wiring." Sounds more like "pre-put-it-on-the-brochure-
so-people-buy-it-thinking-it-included-iPod-connectivity-even-though-it-doesn't."

I am still miffed but thanks for the words of encouragement! [:)]
This is my first MB and I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the basic car, so far. In fact, my only source of disappointment is the lack of standard equipment and the high price of all the options (with the possible exception of the rain-sensitive wipers). IMHO, standard equipment for a car of this category should at least include Comand, electric seats and bi-xenons. And the Nav/Entertainment package (a 4,000CND option here) should include Sirius and i-Pod pre-wiring.

All 05 and 06 SLK's with Comand have the iPod pre-wiring .[;)]
My dealer told me that it was not the case in Canada. I asked as soon as Apple announced it's agreement with MB. We have the glove-compartment-mounted six-disc player instead. [xx(] Sometimes I feel like we have a completely different SLK here. Parktronic and folding mirrors are not available. But we still have Orion Blue and Everest Green for 2006. Go figure.
