My dealer has a car coming in with the CD Changer, and the buyer doesn't want it. I would buy it and have it installed //if// it would enable me to play MP3 discs, which my plain vanilla radio cannot do.
Have we definitively settled the question of whether and when this will work? Is the changer model part of the issue? The list seems a bit ambiguous on the subject ... do we have hard answers out there somewhere?
Thanks,

Thanks,
there are two models of CD changer out there.
they have distinct part numbers! (both still being supplied by MB)
the non-MP3 capable one is p/n A211 827 55 42 80
the MP3 one is p/n A211 870 08 89
just make sure the part number is correct on the one you wish to purchase and it should work fine!
I have a 350 (July build) which here in Australia comes std with command and the 6 disc stacker. My stacker right now has 2 CD's that I have burnt full of MP3 files.
More info...
The command screen displays the name of the song (eg. "BETTER MAN.mp3"), but the name is not displayed in the instrument screen between the speed/tacho.
The command does not recognise the directory structure on the MP3-CD. If the songs are in directories for each album, the command allocates every song on the CD an individual track number i.e. song 5 of the 4 directory could be "track 48", which is what shows up in the instrument screen. Mind you, if it does something different for someone else, I wouldn't be all that surprised.
MP3's burnt to a DVD do show up under a directory structure and also the title is displayed in the instrument screen.
Hope this shed's a little light.
