After three months of driving in the Comfort mode, I recently switched to the Standard-Sport mode. I cannot feel a big difference in normal driving conditions, to be perfectly honnest (I must admit I do have rather conservative driving habits). However, I love the nice purr of the engine in this mode and the excellent responsiveness of the transmission (spectacular kickdowns). The only problem I have with the S mode is the unpleasant jerk I feel when the car shifts from or to first gear. Is this normal? If not, is it due to a malfunction of my transmission or to my particular driving skills? Also, I noticed a slighly higher-fuel consumption (city driving, mostly).
If the jerk in question occurs when you roll almost to a stop, or a one-millisecond stop, and then get on the gas, mine does it too.
Tell us more about your jerk. :)
It is very noticeable when I drive extremely slowly (when I am looking for a parking space in our interior garage, for instance). I can feel an unpleasant jerk (no noise, though) when the transmission shifts from first to second or the other way around. It sounds a lot like what you just described.
Mine does that, too. I have to be extremely delicate on take off from stops to avoid a quick, jerky upshift to 2nd gear. I guess if you're romping around a race course it doesn't matter and those shifts would be beneficial. I usually leave my car in C mode.
If you think the SLK350 jerks (which I owned) you should test the SLK55, the SLK55 JERKS BIG TIME, if the SLK55 jerked any harder it would cause whiplash. I personally think its just the 7G transmission (all normal) after all the SLK is a sports car, it wouldn't be as much fun if it was too gentle.
It occurs to me to mention that there are at least two known trans modifications that MB has been doing. Some kind of a valve has been replaced after people complained, and some people have had the dealer reprogram the transmission's computer.
It might be worth complaining to the dealer to see what he'll do.

With the SLK200 you don't feel the jerk. Of course, driving in Bangkok proper we hardly ever go faster than a walking pace. We travel in an air conditioned lazy-boy.

The transmission jerk occurs in this exact situation!!! I would be traveling in an air-conditioned jerking lazy-boy!!! [:o)]
