Last night I drove home from the dealer in my brand spanking new Obsidian black 55. It was dark, it was hammering it down with rain, the navigation system lady was distracting me and it was rush hour traffic so I took it very, very easy. The sound of the V8 gave me goosebumps though... Now it is light and dry outside so I am going to take her for a spin asap. I'll take her up the mountain this weekend and post some pics.
Be careful. I have 850 miles on mine now. I've had it up to 85-90 mph a few times and have revved it up to 4500 a few times when I felt like accelerating from a stop sign out in the country. The car is very powerful and I can see how it could get away from the driver.
BTW, it is instructive to check your oil level using the method described by shark22. With all the problems that the 350 has had with excessive oil consumption I have been gratified to find that my car has burned only 0.2 quarts in the first 850 miles of driving.
I'm hoping to hit 1000 miles on the car later today and then I plan on switching over to S mode for the first time.
After a day of driving I realise how hard it is going to be to constrain myself during these first 1500 kms. One thing I noticed that it is fairly easy to hit one of the steering wheel shifters or even bump the gearstick. I was pretty surprised when all of a sudden it decided to stick to 1st gear and revved up. It took me a bit of bewildered time to figure out it was limited to 1st gear.
So far so good, we had a lovely day here in Vancouver so I drove around with the top down, airscarf doing its thing. The nav system works like a charm.
Tomorrow I am going to drive up a mountain road, see how she handles. My previous ride was a TT, not anywhere near the amount of power and torque but it ate twisties. I'm eager to see how the SLK does them, even when still in break-in mode.
Hehe well Vancouver weather being as unpredictable as it is (or actually, quite predictable i.e. "rain") it is heavily overcast and raining today. So a trip up the local mountain isn't really going to happen. The next sunny day I will pop out and head up with the camera.
