| Rear Fog Lights For the full background, you need to look at the xenon lights and continental driving post.
How to make both foglights come on:
1. Make sure roof is up.
2. Remove the rectangular clips holding in the rear boot trim. The inner bit pops up with a screw driver, then pulled up with a pair of pliers. The outer bits might come with. If it doesn't then hook it out, if the two bits come apart it doesn't matter. Put the clips safely to one side.
3. Prise out the boot lamp and disconnect.
4. Lift out the boot carpet.
5. Undo a couple of screws at the base of the boot side holding in the carpet.
6. Prise out the clips holding the carpet by the boot hinges.
This all sounds alot, but takes two to three minutes and involves methodically removing any clips you can see holding boot trim or carpet.
7. Grip the big plastic trim (the one holding the boot light) on the rear wall of the car and pull it from the car. Yopu may have to prise it out of the clips but it can take quite a bit of force (constant is better than yanking it).
8. With all the plastic trim out of the way and the carpet pulled away from the side of the boot you should see the wiring at the back of the lights.
Now, the foglight is the top bulb holder. Look for the black wire (UK 200k model so use a circuit tester to check it is the correct one [with an assistant switching the foglight switch on and off]). Take a wire and conect it to the black wire running to the bulb holder and run it along the back of the car to the foglight on the nearside. I soldered the connection, but a scotch lock would equally suffice. Both foglights should now come on. Simply, tape the wire to nearby bunches to secure it, refit all the trim and hey presto. NB: The boot light won't come back on when you re-connect it, close the boot once then reopen and it will be on.
I have known a fault message come up on the mfd saying substitute lamp on (or words to that effect). If you cancel it, then it will never come up again.
On all other mercedes (rhd) take a wire from the 2nd or 3rd wire (from the outside of the car) on the right hand lamp holder and run it to the corresponding one on the other side. Check with a lamp circuit tester and not a multimeter to make sure which hole it is.
I accept no responsibility for damage to your car, and assume a basic level of car electrics.
