Ever since I have traded up/down from my S4, my SLK 350 brakes feels very squishy and soft by comparison. Does any body feel the same way, perhaps someone that had moved from an Audi or Porsche? Can anything be done about this? Perhaps a change of the brake fluid?
I know the brakes in the 350 are not as performant as they are in my 55 (where they are very sharp and strong) since I've been able to try both of them, but 'spongy'? Maybe they do need some readjustment. See if you can test drive another 350 (at a dealers, or from a fellow SLK driver) to see if it's just the brakes, or if it's normal.
You could always upgrade to the AMG ones (but it won't be cheap).
I am very satisfied with my brakes. They are precise and quiet. The other day, I was able to stop on a dime literally and the tyres did not even screech. Of course, this is my first MB, so I cannot compare with other models.
Perhaps you need to have them bled due to air trapped in one of the lines; spongy can also be caused by a failing master cylinder, but that is fairly rare.
