I initially figured I could have a 280 with more goodies than a 350 due to the price difference and I'd get to order exactly what I wanted and collect from Bremen. That was until I was told the new car would be ready for collection in Apr /May 2006. Life is too short (for me!) to wait that long so I got a reasonable price / trade-in on a new 350 sitting in the showroom. Had to miss out on a couple of extras and gained a few unwanted ones (see CD changer controversy!) but I'm picking up the car this weekend and can't wait. For me it came down to price / goodies / availability, I think I found a happy compromise.
It has been many years since I was in Italy but I remember a lot more cars there with manual transmissions than we have in the U.S. Unless shifting gears bothers you, go with the 350.
