Glove Box differences from Region to region?

I was looking at this picture...

and wondered what the differences are in our various glove boxes that would cause such a large difference in space available in there?

RE: Glove Box differences from Region to region?

I don't believe that's a pic of an SLK 350/55. I don't have the 6 CD player on my SLK, but my wife has it on her C320. It takes up the entire left side of the glove box with no room underneath. Had an 06 M class SUV as a loaner with 6 CD player and the unit was motorized and came down from the top of the glove box and disappeared up and out of the way when you were finished.
BTW, I am also in northern NJ, Bergen Co. to be more specific. Are we nearby??

My 6cd changer in my glovebox looks about the same as the one in the picture

US models have knee airbags that take up the extra space.[;)]

Euro models DON'T? Did they leave them out just for cost-cutting reasons, or is there something else that drove the difference?
