Engine replacements ended?

It seems not too many are having engine replacements done. No one seems to have the issue anymore except for myself and Malibite. Maybe they have corrected the problem and new cars dont have this issue? I wonder. Btw it seems that MB is not moving too quickly on replacing my car. Why are they stalling?

Dan, Perhaps they just aren't all that concerned about your problem.

Dan,
I think I am part of your club. Oil probs for 6500 miles now, most of the 9000 miles I have had the car. MB success in solving the problem non existent, 3 claims at having fixed it, total bollocks. I told MB customer services and the service manager at my garage as much and they now have one more chance, their 4th attempt at solving this and other problems, next week.

RE: Engine replacements ended?

Well, I am still undergoing the 2nd, or maybe it is the 3rd, cconsumption test. I have put about 600 miles on it since they did whatever they did the last time and I just checked it and it looks ok. Someone said they rebroke in the seals on my last visit but i don't know. However, it goes on the moving van on Monday and I won't have it for about 10 days so will have to see what happens when I get to NC. It will be interesting to see how the dealer there handles it.

RE: Engine replacements ended?

From what I have heard "most" of these concerns have been resolved by engine break in.

I wonder what's communicated in the MB meetings regarding this issue. I've got to believe they are taking a beating on these dead engines. Perhaps they are asking field reps to be more stringent on engine replacements?

That's what you would expect, because oil consumption generally decreases as the piston rings bed in over the first few thousand miles.

Perhaps, like myself, there are a number
of folks in the midst of oil consumption
tests. At 4800, I was at my 6th quart of
oil. At that rate, it will be about a
month until the check oil light comes
on again to signal another visit to the
service center. I'll keep you posted.

RE: Engine replacements ended?

"rebroke-in the seals"!!!!! I would love the hear the tech explain that one, LMAO. Total bullshit. On a deisel it takes 20K to break them in. On a gas motor by 3000 miles she is as broke in as it is going to get. You oil consumption at that point will get worse not better. I just love the stories you get from the shops. The only way I got MB to step up was to get ugly. The replaced the motor and it seems fine now. I was unwilling to have a new car with a replacement motor period. All said and done the did agree a car with a replaced motor is worth less money period. My new car arrives late Nov. or Dec.
The lack of attention and service from MB is unbelieveable!!! My buddy just got Lexus and they come and pick up the car and drop off a loner while they are doing the work. They have 13 drivers on the road everyday swapping car. MB gives you and enterprise rental car- what a joke. They are replacing my car but they sure never run my trust back. This dealer has never once I repeat once followed up on any I repeat any service they did on my car. My buddies complaint is that he gets 2 phone calls and 3 letters to make sure he was happy and satisfied. He thinks its over kill. I wish MB cared 1/10th as much. I slam them with everyone of my custmers or people I meet. As VP of sales for 3 different companies they ahve no idea how many cars and customers I am costing them. I do love my 350 but I can truely say I would say they chance of me buying another on is about 0. I will try a new dealer closer to my home but I have 0% confidence in MB. I have a Dodge truck and it has been great with great service. Go figure!!!
