How do i know the month and year of manufacture of my car?
How do i know the month and year of manufacture of my car? Someone told me to look on a sticker inside the drivers door but all this tells me is teh chassis number
RE: How do i know the month and year of manufacture of my car?
On U.S. cars, and perhaps all others, the date of manufacture is on the sticker on the drivers' door jamb. It is right after the words "Made in Germany" and consists of a number (month) followed by / then a two digit year code.

whack your VIN number into this online decoder
it'll tell you allsorts including the delivery date!
http://www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/index.html?lng=eng
this is for non-Us VINs only, but there is a workaround for our freinds across the pond...
You need to convert the US VIN. Example:
WDBCA24D6MA599620
to
WDB1260241A599620
Copy your VIN to Word.
Delete everything between the First B and the last A. (CA24D6M in this example)
Put a 1 in front of the A.
Insert your car’s chassis code between the B and the 1. e.g SLK350 = 171456 or SLK55 = 171473.
Copy and paste the converted VIN to the decoder. Once converted the ID should work.
RE: How do i know the month and year of manufacture of my car?
Had a play with it...
i managed to get positive results for 350's in UK, Japan, South Africa and Australia using the check digit as 2 instead of 1 (that digit must indicate RHD i guess ;-)
Using the check digit as 1 yielded a positive hit for a Spanish 350 and a US 55 delivered in Nov 2004!
so i'm not quite sure why i can't get yours to work.
maybe the database is not quite up to date
so i'm guessing for
SLK200 the common digits are WDB171442xFyyyyyy
SLK280 the common digits are WDB171454xFyyyyyy
SLK350 the common digits are WDB171456xFyyyyyy
SLK55 the common digits are WDB171473xFyyyyyy
where x=1 for LHD or x=2 for RHD
and yyyyyy is the 6 digit sequential serial number
just for fun you can see the spec of the very first registered SLK that rolled off the production line by using this VIN
WDB1714421F000001 (it was a silver SLK200 born on 06 Feb 2003 which is incredibly a year before the first public showing at the geneva motorshow :-)
the second car to roll off was a Black SLK200
and the third was a white SLK350
