My dealer seems to believe that my car will arrive at the end of October or early November for a September 30 build date. Is this realistic?
Please post the model that you have ordered. [:)]
BTW, My car has been in processing status since July 25th. That is 5-6 weeks so far. Just checked Netstar last Friday and who knows when it will be finished? It is now at "processing 2", having gone from 19 to 2 since beginning production. Maybe this week? Then shipping can take 3-6 weeks. At this point I have entered a "state of silently waiting for word of progress", similar to a coma. [:)]
I think your dealer is giving you a line of BS; telling you what you want to hear. There is no way they have that specific of information. I have seen the Netstar computer screens myself. I believe my sales reps when they say they don't really know when my car will be finished and on its way. There are too many variables what with parts coming along the lines to converge on your car.
You will get your car and chances are pretty good that you will love it when you do. Good luck and be patient. [:(]
I was told that the SLK280 I had on order for European Delivery was scheduled for a build date of "1st Decade of July." When I picked it up at the end of July at the factory I noticed the stamped build date was July 1st. Had it been shipped rather than held for European Delivery it could well have arrived in the time frame you were told. Of course each decade expands over a ten day period so if yours is built at the end of the decade it would take longer to get to you. There is of course an element of luck too since the cars could be held up at port for one reason or another. I assume any ships crossing the Atlantic right now are probably taking longer to cross because of this being hurricane season. I noticed that the current hurricane is not expected to be a threat to land, but is interfering with shipping lanes.
So I was given a production date of D3 in the month of August (so basically 3rd week of August production date). I'm not quite sure where on netstar you can track the progress that you speak of reallife. I have a copy of the netstar printing and dont see an progress numbers....just wondering where you see that. Thanks if you can enlighten me.

I'm not sure how the sales reps get to this info either. Only a couple of them have been granted enough access into Netstar to pull up the info on existing orders. My original rep could do it but he is suddenly no longer with the dealer, without explanation. They seem to move their sales reps around within the parent company.
In any case, with the right access, the sales rep was able to pull up screens that showed my car, my name, option details, etc along with the status. It was allocated a few weeks later, entered the production phase on July 25 (process 19) where it seemed to remain stagnated for about 3 weeks. Then, suddenly it advanced to 'process 13, then 3 then 2 as of last Thursday.
These 'process' numbers are located just below the list of options and the VIN which is still blank. There is a data table that lists every query into Netstar for the vehicle by date and status. The first few entries were for the order and changes in color and options. Once it started down the list of 'processes' that data started to appear also. That is the info I'm referring to.
My new sales rep says that each process number refers to a specific location within the assembly line. He doesn't know what locations the numbers actually correlate with, however, or even if the vehicle progresses down the line in numerical order. The reps all agree that the car was hung up at process 19 waiting for parts, probably for the 030 AMG performance package since it is a newly available option but no one is really sure.
As of Friday last week the sales reps are confident that it will be 'produced' and assigned a VIN within the next few days. This info is supposed to generate an automatic e-mail to the dealer and supposedly to me also. I'm still waiting. If I don't get any follow-up by next Monday, I'll stop in again to have them check on it while I'm sitting there. They'll let me look at the screen and give me a copy of the data when I ask. I try not to wear out my welcome but it hard to be patient. [8)]
