I am a New Orleans resident and live(d) in the neighborhood at the lakefront where the levee collapsed. Have had a very harrowing experience and only arrived at my family's in SC today (9/03). I did manage to save my dog, this car, a laptop, cellphone and a handful of clothing-I own nothing else now I guess. I 'll write more about what I know if anyone is interested. Pray for those who are not as fortunate as I am.

You did well to save all that you have.Looking at the TV pics in the UK we can't imagine what it must be like to be in that area. To see people looting is unbelievable.I imagine folk are desperate and will grab what they can but our News tells of armed organised gangs. I'm sure I can speak for all UK benz members and others to wish you and all other residents on the Gulf Coast a speedy return to your way of life and pray for you, your loved ones and all the others involved in this horrific incident.
Roger, Glad to hear that you were able to leave before the worst hit. I was in New Orleans in 1969 when Camile struck. This looks 100 times worse.
Topaz, I can sympatize a little with hungry people taking food from closed stores. The rest of the looters should be shot on site. We are too easy on that class of criminals.
Wow. I'm really glad you are ok. So sorry to hear about everyone down there in the Gulf. I hope that you can patch your life back together. Best wishes from Alabama.

Thank you for alerting us that you made it safely from this unbelievable disaster.
I understand that this has been a harrowing experience but you save the most important thing, your lives. Everything material can be replace but you and your family lives' is most paramount.
So glad you made it out safe. Truly a horrific experience for all involved and it will take a long time to recover. New Orleans is one of my very favorite cities and I have such good memories from there over the years. It is sad to see it this way.
