Temp in lower display UK

Did we ever get a true answer if this is possible or not. I don't mind seeing the temp and the KPH in the bottom display

RE: Temp in lower display UK

I am sure in this newgroup there was a thread where someone had a letter from MB UK saying that the stardiognostic change to show MPH or Temp was allowed... and that ppl have had it doen by UK dealers without changing the country code.

But I can not find that thread!

I personally, with my seat/wheel position, can not see MPH dial, and despratly want and need MPH in the lower display!

My dealer has played with StarD twice now, and failed to make it work.

RE: Temp in lower display UK

I got as far as MB accepting it was not a legal requirement and the dealer had two goes at changing it.

The current state of play is that the software in my car ( March 2005 build ) is apparently too new for the change to be made.

That implies that MB have decided that they will not allow this change to be made in the UK anymore and changed their software accordingly.

I am currently awaiting a reply from MB on why they are blocking this change, whether future software will have this restriction removed and whether I can have the software in my car reverted to an older version.

No answer as yet - I think they are just hoping I will give up now.

I can only see this getting anywhere now if enough people request the change from MB either directly or via their dealers.
In reality I doubt even this will work, it is probably a very low priority on MB's problem list.

RE: Temp in lower display UK

It might be low priority but it is very annoying. I am trying to get my dealer to change things when the cars in having it's differential replaced. I have also written to the factory in Bremen directly to see if they have any information or advice. I will also write to MB Head Office if someone could kindly post their address.

Thanks for the responses - I too will write to MB UK. And likewise I'll not hold my breath!

My vehicle is also a March 2005 build.

RE: Temp in lower display UK

Right I think I've had the definitive reply - from the horses mouth so to speak!
I received a personal telephone call from the Bremen factory this morning. I was surprised they contacted me directly but pleased to speak with someone who knows what they're talking about. I had written to ask about the temp display and the rain sensor.

The ability to change the lower display to temp has been PERMANENTLY removed by MB. They understood it was illegal to remove it in the UK and so disabled the option within the STAR system in newer models. There is NO way to change this. The guy said there was no way to turn back the software and the present software simply will not allow it[:(!]. I explained it wasn't a legal requirement to have it permanently displayed in the UK but he claims that's what they've been told and have therefore ensured NO-ONE can change it.

On the rain sensor front, there is better news. There are apparently two boxes for the sensor. To have rain sensor wipers, he said I need to purchase the other box which has the combined sensor units installed. The cost of this in Germany is 40 euros plus the fitting. So contrary to what has been said, the sensor is not fitted to all vehicles, certainly newer models, but the retrofit is very simple and not costly. Whether my dealer can actually do it is another thing!

Very annoyed and disappointed about the display problem but it looks like we're stuck with it.
