Does anyone have a Mercedes part number for the Ipod kit ? As per standard procedure the dealers can see the kit but cannot order it because there is no part number......
Interesting, I just asked my dealer about it today and he said he had no further info on it for the SLK but had a waiting list so far for 6 people (including me) who wanted it. I was told he couldn't even "see" it for the SLK but only for the M class.
However, in previous posts it was mentioned that the Ipod was going to fit in the rear drop-down storage area held by the elastic band. My dealer said it was going to be fitted into a bracket on the dash[:0] I hope not!!
malibuite,
Have you tried calling other dealers. I got the impression from Keyes in Van Nuys that they had some in stock.
Also, the finance manager at Keyes said his friend found a blue tooth connection for the Ipod and it's way better than the dock that MB offers. Has anyone heard of this or know where to get it? I'd prefer an option that doesn't force you to charge the Ipod while playing. The Ipod already has lots of problems with the battery holding the charge. I try to drain the battery completely and then charge completely to retain the battery life, but I'm no techie, don't know if it makes a difference.

I just called Keyes in Van Nuyes and the guy in the Parts department told me that they did not have any kits in but expected them in before the end of August for the SLK. At least that is more info than my dealer had.
The reason I want the MB kit is so I can use the steering wheel buttons to control the Ipod and be able to display what is playing. I don't think you can do that on the SLK with Bluetooth.

This is the most stressful use-model on a Lithium-Ion battery. Only with Nickel-based batteries should you completely discharge before recharging.
With Lithium-Ion you should recharge anytime it has had some discharge. If stored over a long period of time, it should be left connected to a charger. If a Lithium-Ion battery completely discharges (which it does over time) for an extended period, it will no longer hold a charge. With that all said, about once a month it is good to completely discharge then completely charge the battery in one cycle.
I've learned the most about battery life from reading various manufactuer's laptop instruction manuals.
Ok, someone on the C55 AMG forum says he is having his Ipod integration kit installed on Monday. He/she appears to be in or near Bethesda, MD. He's looking at installation cost arounf $300-$400 on top of the kit price of $299.
Any SLK owners on the east coast heard that your dealers may already have the kit? As noted previously, my dealer told me today it would be August.

Thanks for the advice. I used to be uncomfortable if I had to charge my ipod before it was fully drained, now I'll just keep it charged. [:)]
