HERE IS A PHOTO OF THE IPOD INSTALLED WITH THE "OPTIONAL" CRADLE IN A SLK.
SAM
Is this the MB Integration Kit or OEM? If the MB kit, where did you have it done in SoCal? I have called three dealers and they have all told me the kits are not available yet.
The MB kit showed the IPOD in the drop down compartment held with the elastic band. What holds the Ipod in the location you are showing if you don't purchase the "optional" cradle?

Sam in your opinion, is it really a 3 hour install!!!
also are there alternative locations to have the ipod mentioned in the installation details?
G'day Ian,
Congratulations on getting the "gig" as moderator; with your knowledgeable but unassuming style, you're sure to be well received.
After having seen the renowned Steve Krabbbenborg remove the COMAND head unit and lay bare the centre console area on my car within a few minutes, I'd feel ripped off if the installation of the iPod kit took more than half an hour!
I'd expect that it could be fitted in any location, within reach of the supplied harness, or further with modification. The location in the diagram is fine with me; at least it's in a lockable location, and will "work" for our USA friends with the CD changer in the glove box.

Yes, but I have the CD changer in the glovebox so if the location showed in the picture is the center console box that is bad news for me because that is where I currently store a lot of stuff I cannot get in the glovebox. [V] Thought the rear dropdown glovebox was an excellent spot since I don't use that for anything.

G'day malibuite,
As you may (or may not) recall, I was one of the early proponents of the "rear drop down glovebox" location, saying that there was a "punch out" at the back, ready for a connector. However, I've since learned that that was for "emergency" access to a roof mechanism release valve, so I'll recant.
I'm glad it will go in the centre(er) console, which is lockable. I'll be moving less expensive stuff like SunScreen to the "drop down" to make way for it.
I'm about to buy my wife an Ipod, and I'm sure she will want to integrate it into the car if we are able to. Will the integration kit work with all Ipods currently on the market? Our car has COMAND, does that make any difference? Thx for your help.
