Small 'bump' quick update - I only occasionally listen to one FM channel (still BBC R2[:)]) - I've forgotten about the tiny degredation in radio quality - as I said, most of the time I listen to DVD/CD/ my little podule - when I do listen to the radio, I don' even think about it's quality - it's nearly as good as the long twig I took off, and, IMHO the short one looks soooooooo much better (and, I've still got 2 eyes!!!!!)
Was at the dealer today to swap loaner truck for Benz to drive while they finish sorting out my COMAND issues...they have never seen a unit send signals producing noises while the car is not running & key out of ignition. Had parts check for the antenna & kit-can get the 170 stub but the 171 kit was showing as no such part number. ANY IDEAS? & Could someone who has obtained the kit double check the parts number in the post for me.? Thanks.
the small antenna ıs good enough ın central london for radıo receptıon... unfortunatley ıt ıs pretty poor ın the rest of europe and northern Italy ın case you are plannıng to travel there.
The rest (roof and Sat Nav) are unaffected

Looks lıke that lovely lady poked her rıght eye wıth the orıgınal SLK antenna!!! gıve her my mobıle... I can look after her!
Motzkoman, I sure feel sorry for this woman. Not only did she get poked in the eye with an SLK antenna, but the poor thing can't even afford clothing that fits her. Print her address and I'll send her some of my wife's old things.

The individual part numbers are as follows (they are on the photos at the top of this thread but they don't seem to be displayed anymore!!)
There is also some odd bits and pieces (see photo below).
I'm guessing that it is using some stuff from the R170 but is being sold for the R171 (why else have 171 in the full kit number??)

Has anyone had the 170 stubby and the base of the antenna painted to match the car? If so, does it look like it is holding the paint well? The guys at my dealer have a divergence of opinion regarding durability if painted.
