How do I repair the headlight switch? Can I pry off the cover, reveal a circuit board, find bad solder resolder; find and polish relay contacts; clean and polish; etc,?
I posted or contributed to threads that traced a right turn signal indicator light malfunction to the headlight switch. The fuse is number 3 by the driver’s door dash. I replaced the switch with 2 used ones. Now this 3rd switch is giving intermittent turn indicator faults again.
I cleaned the fuse contacts and slightly twisted the blades, tried the turn signal with no faults yet. However, it may take time for the fault to re-appear.
BUMP-Cleaning and bending fuse prongs has helped. I haven't noticed the right dash indicator arrow not flashing lately. Other than replacing the headlight switch, anyone know a fix?
BUMPX2 The right turn signal quit working at all again. I re-cleaned all the fuses and bent them to make better contact. Is the circuit board fixable? Are there any visual signs of circuitry defects?
My right turn indicator had an intermittent fault but I fixed it years ago by following this link-http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170-slk-class/1355156-slk-indicator-lights-staying-possible-fix.html. Are you sure the turn indicators are affected by the headlight switch? I know MB do some weird things with their control logic but I don't see any reason to involve the headlight switch with the turn indicators.
IIRC I looked for the flasher relay in that module. YMMV. The 2003 SLK circuitry is in the headlight switch. I think fuse 7 is for the right turn indicator. I think its chart says right parking light. I found this out, and replaced the headlight switch fuse box twice already with used units. The first replacement worked properly, and quickly displayed the same intermittent error/no dash display of the right turn indicator. The second one worked for a while/much longer, displayed error, I cleaned and bent fuse 7, error went away, a few months later error returned and is now I think permanent. I have looked under magnification at my old circuit board and see no abnormalities. Any idea how to fix a circuit board?
Awesome tips. I wish it wasn't such a pain to switch out. I don't think I can even test a repair without installing the fixed unit. If I can find a continuity break, it might be worth repairing.
