Shifting the auto manually--accelerate wear?

Greetings. First post and all. Just bought a '98 SLK. Just getting to know it.

Will using the manual shift feature in the auto trans accelerate tranny wear? Occasionally, I want to bump that lever from D to 4 when climbing a hill or passing. ANY reason not to?

Already learned a ton from browsing. I look forward to contributing as my experience grows.

not really... i just leave mine in 4th for performance style driving or track work.

1,2,3,4 are all electronically switched using micro switches in the shiftier mechanism. 4 -> D is a mechanical shift.

below is from the users manual...

for performance driving keep it in 4th. whilst in 4th if you quickly lift of the throttle when say slowing down going into a corner etc it will be smart enough to use engine braking to help out too!
