Help, my lovely SLK is in trouble... ASR light is on and engine is "bumping"....
[:(]need your help! yesterday when I started my car, i felt it accerelated quite abnormally fast when I push to "D" level. Then everything and I drove ~20km to teh nearly shopping mall. When I finished shopping (about 1 hour) and I could't turn on the engine!!! apparently the battery is dead. I couldn't restart the car using the "Start-me-up" spare battery so I called my dealer to help me to restarted the car.
Now the problem is even I managed to turn on teh engine, the car go very fast by itself and the "ASR" light is on by itself. The even worse thing is when I shifted to "N" or "P" position, the engine is "shaking" (very unstable!!) strangely. Anyway now the dealer first told me the oil filter is very dirty (what the fuxk, I paid them to maintain it every 3 months!!)... ok, I approved them to change it and the battery, and they said now they found out that it is the "Butterfly-flip (?)" casuing the problem and it cost at least 2,000 to get a new one...[V][V]
[?]Can anyone tell me whether this is true or is there any other alternative way to save some $$$??

I found two TSB (Technical Service Bulletins)which relate to your problem:
AF07.87.U6700AV - General complaints on engine operation, e.g. shaking, missing during acceleration, dying while idling. The cause is defective hot firm mass air flow sensor - part number (Mass Air Flow Sensor) 0000940948 cost $462.00, looks easy to me to get to and replace.
AF30.20.U.9900AG - Engine surges and/or runs irregularly at idle speed (occasionally), throttle value actuator is nosiy. Note throttle valve actuator with production date from 663XX to 769XX are affected.
Part number (Throttle Body) 1111410025, cost $523.35, it is a do it yourself project.
I would go to another dealer to make sure what exactly is the problem.
thanks, hope there is more good news from you soon. You know what the dealer told me today? He said after replacing the filter as well as the battery, the engine works better now, but he asked me whether I am able to accept the "sudden shake" every 2-3 minutues(?!) What the fuxk, can;t believe someone like him will give me answer like this. I said this might be the beginning of another much bigger problem and I want to drive my car peacefully and not worrying about it everytime I use it.
anyway he said he will give me the exact quotation ASAP.. [xx(][B)]
Thanks bgoin, you are right, the mechanic said the problem is sourced from this "Part number (Throttle Body) 1111410025". Now they asked for $900 OEM parts (Borsch) including labor cost, do you think it's ok? Should I buy the genuine part from MB for $1500 incl labor? The funny thing is the warranty period from MB is only 1 month. I hardly drive my SLK and one month seems too short[xx(]
Re: Problem identified and the quotation is back!!!

It is your call, but if it was my car, I would buy the part and install it myself. I would check around to see if I can get the part at a lower price. The other thing I would do, is remove the "Throttle Body",
before buying a new one and take a look at it, to see if it looks okay and the "flip" moves okay. Did you mechanic say anything about the other part, the MAS? The throttle body is not complex, hard for me to believe, it could go out(however there was the TSB on it), the MAS is complex, and anything like dirt getting in it would make it manfunction.
I am actually an idoit on this area and I am still learning how to maintain a car, so don't think I am capable to do such great work like you. The mechanic said he took the thing out and cleaned it and it worked better, but stil have occassional "shakes" (every 3-4 minutes). So the deal is $750 for the OEM Borsch parts and labor, this price also included the new battery. And they give me 3-month warranty.
Funny thing is they said their OEM is the "A-grade" product from made new from Germany, not like those B-grade recycled products from Eastern Europe... This is the first time I heard that kind of "sales-talk" on MB parts.
Dear Friends
Do you know - is it possible to order Throttle Body (111 141 00 25) by the internet?
I have same problem with my C230 (1998).
I think this part is same for various models with same engine
First of all each dealer charges different prices on parts and labor. You must call each dealers part dept. and get quotes on parts you need. My dealer sells me parts at wholesale prices.
I just had to have my throttle body replaced for this exact problem. Car is still under warranty so no chargre but I wonder if they would still charge with NTBS bulletins our there for your problem. It is Mercedes so the sky is the limit. You can easliy purchase a MAF for your car on line. The throttle body is sold sometimes on Ebay for around $30.00. Just keep in mind that your model and year SLK has a different throttle body than the first. Photo is of your t/b!
If I can do a lot of the work on the car anyone on this forum can do it.
