Tunning slk 230, Pulley upgrade and etc.

Hi,
Just bought my self a Slk 230 facelift model with a 6 speed manual gearbox.
I want to upgrade the give it more HP, have a friend that works at a tunning company that told me he will do a pulley upgrade and some others mods and put the Hp up too 230 for around 1 830 dollars. Now my question is will the manual gearbox handle it or will it fail on me ?

Some say that the transmission is already at its limits and if that is true i rather not do the upgrade and just keep the car stock. Has any one done this before ?

most tuning solutions were developed with the auto trans in mind as the auto transmission is very popular for MB (and only choice in most cases).

as mentioned before... stock torque is 280nM for the SLK 230. the auto trans is rated at 330nM, and the manual transmission is rated 270nM.

most pulley kits bring the torque up to around 320-330nM. so on an auto car its no problem. in a manual car you will be over the limit by nearly 20%. the torque limit is for maximum continuous torque input. its very hard to achieve continuous torque input for sustained durations on the street - different story if on the track / dyno or doing spirited driving.

SLK 230 pre and post face lift use the SG-S270/5.5 manual transmission...

question will it handle it? depends how you drive and how hard you push the car...

Im gonna ask the tunning company where my friend works about this, but it sounds strange the they put a manual that almost cant handle the the stock.
Edit: got a reply back from the Tunning company, they say that the 6 Speed manual can handle the upgrade no problem and that its well over specs when regarding stock.

Im lost now

Okey, but still why did Mb put a transmission that handels 270 nm as max when the engine produces 280nm.?

Edit: Subby sorry to bother you mate but can you check the 320 manual specs and post them for me please ?

they do it so you cant modify your car... why do you think the newer post face lift slk has a SMALLER supercharger (M45) than the older SLK? they quickly found doing a bit of work for little money you can make way more power than the next car up the SLK320...

WIS says the SLK320 has a SG-S400/5.3 manual transmission (rated for 400nM). the 270nM looks like the best match for the SLK230 and its only 4% off...

edit: for your info the SLK32 the top of the range SLK auto trans is rated maximum of 580nM

I've got the 5spd gear box.. i tear it up everyday of driving. I've done the ASP pulley, exhaust work, injector work, intake/intercooler work, larger FPR, few other things

been tearing it up since 2008

mind you... Once I get turbo stuff done, I will obviously run the 5spd for a while.. but I may have to switch to a getrag tranny or somethin. I'll see when I get there

How many Hp do you have? and did you do anything to the clutch or gearbox ?

Also subby can you please post the 5 speed manual specs as well ?

Thank you all for the info you provided and time you spent helping me out by answering my stupid questions :P
