Safe way to carry LP tank

I use my SLK as a daily driver and when it came time to get a propane tank exchanged, I needed a way to secure it. Those things are too dangerous to just let roll around in the trunk. Who wants their trunk trashed by a rouge tank ?

It was very easy to build and can but done with at least 1/2" plywood or MDF and some 2"x4" blocks
Tank is very stable and you can still do some "spirited driving" and put the top down.

it should always be valve pointing up though, but the effort is certainly there

Had to carry one the other day also and felt distinctly unsafe in case the refill guy forgot to tighten something - put the top down anyway

Had a case some years ago of turning the main tap off after use and it kept turning - the whole assembly came out (LH thread) with a shreiking sound you wouldn't believe - it was a full tank and luckily was on an outside balcony - scared the hell out of me - bad design

BTW - has that tank reached the end of its useful life? - Here it is illegal to refill or sell a tank over 10 yrs old

LP Tank

I also use my 99 230SLK as a daily driver and I transport LP tanks in it. I find that standing the tank up in the passenger's footwell with the seat way back works well. I place a rag between the tank and the glove box door and have never had a problem with damage. I always put a window down or the top down when I carry a LP tank.

Well if that works for you, thats great. But I find that the interior finish is way too fragile and a rag would not stop the damage if tank started to move.

I always need to be prepared for the worst case scenerio because of the large majority of very bad drivers here. It's not uncommon here for a taxi to slam on the brakes and make a u-turn right in front of you, just to pick up a fare.

I need my tank secured.
