| Discount Tire employee warned me about Kuhmo's notorious reputation for side wall bubbles.... Also while I had my Kuhmo's put on last night, one of the wheel techs (same guy that did my wheels last fall too) warned me about the Kuhmo's notorious reputaton for picking up what he called side wall bubbles related to hitting rough pavement or chuckholes in the road. Because the Kuhmo's side-walls are slightly softer than some of the top-of-the-line performance wheels, the Kuhmo's tend to be damaged more easily by impact trauma. He said he has seen countless Kuhmo's being replaced because of the bubbles that form in the side walls after hitting unever pavement and chuck holes. :O
He said he personally still recommends the Kuhmo's as the best value in high perf. tires. He uses them on his 1992 BMW M3. But he said he always recommends Discount Tires's road hazard insurance, so they are replaced free when the bubble forms...... I didn't feel like he was trying to sell me on anything (truth is I already purchased the hazard insurance last summer). But still I've never heard of this before. But I'd tend to trust a tire tech. like this who sees tires every hour of every day.
So if you have the Kuhmo's or thinking of getting the Kuhmo's be aware....
Sincerely,
Douglas
PS - I happen to love my Kuhmo's. The side walls are slightly softer than the Michilan Pilots - which tends to make you "float" during acceleration into a turn, or taking a turn at speeds. But otherwise, I've not any complaints. And at ~$90/tire it's a real steal....
