Step by step procedure to turn on chirping for locking and unlocking (does not disable panic button)

This is the step by step procedure through the computer screen. I will use SEL for select this option. I will list the number of the option to select.
ECU:
SEL ATA - Anti-theft alarm system
SEL (5) - Version coding
SEL (4) - Acoustic alarm notification via
SEL (1) Alarm siren
SEL (2) - Netherlands(acoustic lock confirm)
SEL (6) - Stage 6 or your loundness preference

I actually programmed this myself with the technician so I could understand the procedure. I also printed out the procedure from the computer. As you can see, the Netherlands selection is buried in the menu. The panic button works. You must hold it down for a few seconds. You get two chirps to lock and one chirp when you unlock. The lights still flash as before. The chirping is just added. This is the menu for 2002 SLK 320.

Hi Gene, do you know if this applies for the pre-2000 models as well?

Sorry, I don't know. Its such a simple operation, it should not be hard for MB service to try.
