lug nut differences

Hmm... I was wondering are there any differences in length and size of lug nuts for the 16'' 7 Spoke SLK 230 rims compared to the the 17'' AMG32 5 split-spoke rims? Wonder if I would need to get different lugs to fit them? hmm... Also do you guys know of any good tire locks available for mercedes? Thanks!

YES there is a difference, the wheel bolts for the SLK32 and the SLK with the Sport...

YES there is a difference, the wheel bolts for the SLK32 and the SLK with the Sport package are the same but the non-Sport SLK are shorter. It's on page 99 in the owner manual, the threads look the same size but the lug is longer for the Sport/AMG.

Hey NP, By any chance do you know how much longer it is? i believe curently i have 2 1/2 inch on mine (From tip to tip). The spare tire is 1 1/2 (From tip to tip)... So would the AMG Sports be 3 to 3 1/2 inches?

thanks!

There is as far as I know 4 different lug bolts for mercedes cars.........

If you look at the bolts, the threaded section comes in two different lengths. The tapered part that holds the wheel has two different shapes, conical and rounded. Total of four different bolts. If you count the special bolts for the spare tire, that could be five or more.
The hexagonal head may be slightly shorter or longer, but that doesn't affect the holding power of the bolt, only the cosmetics. There are variances in the bolt head as well, some have a stainless steel insert while some are only carbon steel.
If you count all of the above variations, there are plenty of bolts to start a pretty good collection.[:o)]

I think there are 2 different diameters, too.

12mm (C/CLK/E/SLK) and 14mm (CL/S/SL), not sure about the ML.

All the SL's that I've come across have had the same 17 mm hex head.....

One of the guys has a '94 SL600, and had a problem with replica wheels. He put the stock longer bolts in and damaged the parking brake. To get him home a couple of the guys loaned him one bolt from each of their wheels, (they had 190E's). The 190's had four bolts in each wheel and the SL 600 had four bolts in the two rear wheels. They all got home OK.
I don't know about the ML's eather.

hey bgoin thanks for asking...

Nope, i haven't started any repairs at all. The insurance company and driver at fault is giving me the total run around. Aparently the fault driver that initiated the accident in a RX300 hasn't even reported to her own insurance company yet... and its been a week! It wasn't until my insurance company that contacted her insurance that they found out about the accident! I don't know what she was thinking not reporting it to her insurance company. She hit one car that hit into me... and the caravan had 2 injuries that required a ambulance too... I would think notifying her insurance company was a no brainer... on well.. guess thats just life.

Oh, and thanks for the feedback on the wheel bolts. I just wanted to make sure i wasn't using the wrong ones on my car. So i'm guessing 2 1/2 inch (tip to tip) is the longest MB uses on their stock AMG rims?

Thanks!
