Now that the totalitarian idiots of the UK government have announced their intention to force everyone to switch from the excellence of VHF/FM to the flawed technology of DAB radio in the next few years, I am considering whether to install a DAB system in my SLK.
Apart from lack of multi-standard DAB receivers which would be compatible with other European DAB systems, the big problem is the antenna. The UK model doesn't have an external antenna; even if it did, I haven't found any DAB antennae which are compatible with the type of mount used on other SLKs.
My preferred solution of putting an AM/FM/DAB antenna in the centre of the bootlid seems fraught with difficulty, due to the problems of keeping antenna amplifier power and feeder cables clear of the roof fold mechanism. There doesn't seem to be enough space at the front of the roof immediately behind the windscreen top for a normal roof antenna - so it's probably going to have to be an internal 'on glass' antenna.
Anyone have any bright suggestions?
