I'm a member on the AMG owners lounge and a couple of other sites and I don't see many mentions of the slk32? I know it ain't a 500 hp big giant coupe or 4-door but it is an AMG performance car isn't it? Are we destined to be the 50 yr old unmarried uncle who everybody looks at funny? By the way the AMG site asks for a vin number to even get a membership. And why does it seem so hard to get a definitive production number on these things? AMG forum says 654 for 2002 but if I look around online I see something like 1200+. Has anybody got any idea? I don't know about other 32 owners but I love this car and think they get a bad rap, scratch that--- NO RAP at all.
I will say it is nice sometimes that not many people know what this car is capable of, especially when the dorks with their mustangs and rice burning noise makers try to keep up on the highway
Now I feel better
heres a link with the numbers you want. /////AMG production count for US market | TopGearage
can you pm me the link to the amg site? i lost it and havent been able to find it.
maybe the 32 is just SO rare noone knows about it!

The SLK32 AMG is a 6-cylinder, correct?
As an SLK55 owner, Mercedes sent me a survey last year asking about my thoughts on a twin-turbo 6-cylinder instead of a V8.
I think Mercedes is fishing for a new eco-friendly engine for the SLK AMG model in it's next iteration. R172 perhaps?
If I recall, the SLK32 is actually a little faster than the SLK55 - because of weight.
Perhaps a TT6 cylinder is >10% lighter than a NA 8? Is that weight difference, and fuel consumption worth it?
I've never driven the SLK32, but Jeremy Clarkson drove the Brabus and liked it. He also drove the SLK55 and bought one. Likewise for the CLK63 Black.
Regardless, in my mind, the SLK32 is an AMG. The reasoning for this is because I believe the SLK32 was on the market before Mercedes officially purchased AMG. Up until that point, even the W210 E55 was not an AMG.
So I think the SLK32 can't be the only stepchild. In fact, I think they were the launching pads for the current AMGs. Look at the W124 500E/E500! That wasn't an AMG, but it was actually developed in part with Porsche, who designed the modifications to allow the M119 V8 from the S-class to fit, among other features.
What we will never know for sure is exactly how many pre-AMG SLKs and Es are out there.

I won't be surprised if they're back to V6 and adding turbos this time for the SLK AMG lineup. Engine is already light, body is light, with 400+ HP, capable of 500+
That surely be AMG! And I think that's even in the AMG black category
Look at the 350 engine w/ 300hp. It'll be nice if they up the torque rating a bit though. I'm sure the AMG engineers can manage that!
Then again, they have tri-turbo version CDI for the SLK.
I'm just thinking of the possibilities
I agree with the OP; seems like they have no rap at all - nothing to say one way or the other.
I'm quite a gearhead, but to be honest with everyone, I did not know much about the SLK32 before I decided to purchase the one I own now.
That's exactly what I meant. The ///AMG website doesn't even have the car in archives as far I have seen. If it weren't for buying my 230 AND finding this site I would never have known that the 32 even existed. Granted it isn't a hundred thousand dollar sport-luxury like the bigger models but look at the performance..You know what? To hell with it I love my 32 and hope it runs for a million miles. I'm thinking about going "walkabout" up and down the coast this summer and can't think of a better ride to do it in.
