you guys really gotta think out of the box..lol you see, since he's already parting away with the wood trim, you could easily modify the piece to relocate the buttons... and open up space for the double din unit..and then when all fits well...get it covered in the suede and WALLA ...

imagine this same install but obviously with a modern after-market unit ......





and have something like this in there :

that to mee is the ultimate setup and its what I have planned.... still dont know if im going to get the center piece painted in a custom finish (along with all my other trim pieces) or get them wrapped in CF. we'll see how it goes.

That does look very clean. Maybe later on after I get a few other things that need to be done, done. We shall see..

i have an old garmin gps5 that i was thinking would fit pretty well in the cubby hole. i might retro it in there, its not what i would call "navigation" but it does know where you are int he world.
