viponds touch up paint - where to buy ?

I have a 2001 SLK320 with the black and tan interior, and although my interior has aged G R E A T compared to most I have seen, I think I need to do a small touch up.

Anyone know the guy in Austrailia to get the paint from .. I need the contact info, unless I can find another source from NORTH AMERICA, I have only heard of this as an option.

THANKS!

-Dave

He fills orders pretty quickly. I think I had mine in under a week from the time I placed the order, which is pretty good coming from overseas.

There are 2 beige colours and 2 different reds so get your exact colour by putting your VIN into Mercedes-Benz Club Russia | Mercedes-Benz / VIN

Sienna beige(leather sand) 225
Siam beige 215
Scarlet 227
Crimson 217
Anthracite 221
Mondrian blue 222

Contact Viponds on alan@viponds.com.au or Viponds Paints - The Paint Colour Specialists - Architectural, Industrial Signwriting Industries and
they will send 200mls to your door (USA) for about $40 USD (they accept paypal in USD)

The paint dries to a very thin film and is pretty "matt" (non gloss) and covers a multitude of sins. Even so, I became obsessive about it and would not put up with anything less than 'as new'.

The really important thing is to feather off any loose edges with wet/dry
paper(wet) and be scrupulously clean with the prep (I have a feeling that some
of the original problems might have been someone in the paint factory being
a bit slack and touching the consoles before painting - because some people
have had less trouble than others)

No removal of panels necessary,

Very unusual to have damage on the edges and margins - if so just touch
these up first

90 min to do the whole lot (except the speedo bit which is probably OK)-- paint this panel when you have to remove it to replace bulbs

Rough mask where carpet joins console and the air vents/dash top etc -- do
the cleaning with detergent first and then alcohol -- touch up any chips
until the thickness of the chip is up to the level of the original paint -
when dry, wipe the whole thing over with paint on a lint free cloth.

Start with dash and under dash- the push seat fwd and do rear of console-
seat back and do the front

Practice on the little panel under steering wheel - also unscrew lid of
console to wipe over separately

CARE OF VINYL

The only care for your paint or vinyl surfaces should be mild soapy water
(washed off after with water) and application of a non silicone type of
conditioner (there is a need to add plasticisers back to the paint/vinyl)

This means that 'Armorall' is bad news - '303 protectant' or any other with
plasticisers is the way to go -- (not needed on new paint until 12 mths have
passed according to Viponds)

Viponds told me that any oil/petroleum/silicone/wax product is bad news - as
is alcohol/harsh detergents (with exception of prep for paint)

Good luck with it - you'll be amazed at the result.

Hey...thanks for the care advice! I didn't know that. I have used Amorall on ours since touching it up without any negative results so far, but I don't do it that often. I do have the 303 Protectant (available at True Value Hardware stores here in the States) and will begin using that instead.

Cheers again for that!

Got my anthracite Vipond today - perfect match, really a blessing after countless trials with the "original" Mercedes paint. Arrived in NY within 2 weeks from down-under, was easy to apply. Water-based, so no stink and green to our lungs. Thanks, Alan!!!

Oberoi,

Maybe you can help me help Alan Viponds. I sent him an E mail to open the correspondence and the information below. He was not sure if he had the paint code for the Napa leather 861 mentioned below. The interior as best I can tell is anthracite with black Napa leather seats. Is there any other paint code I am missing that I can supply Alan?

Thanks very much,

Zill.
