Flame wars

Some people think they are good entertainment while others think they don't belong here. This is your chance to give some input, after all, it’s your site…………

The poll is public, but don't let that bother you, we need to get straight answers to help improve this site and/or to what you ladies and gentlemen (?) want it to be.

Think about it, we don't need quick answers, we need good, honest answers.
Keep in mind that it can get pretty nasty at times, but there are also times when the responses can be funny as hell.
Some people need a good thrashing once in a while, and others have a hard time defending themselves even when they are right.
There are pro’s and con’s to everything, this is that kind of situation, and that’s why the poll.

The poll is set up for a 10 day run, that should be enough time for at least most to get an answer in..........

As long as things don't get demeaning, demoralizing, or intentionally insulting, then a "lively discussion" is always fun to follow. If you intentionally try to personally trash someone with malice that's where I draw the line.

Bruce, my take is that folk should be allowed to say pretty much what they want, provided it doesn't devolve into mere personal invective - racism, name calling and plain old senseless abuse. There have been some pretty ugly things said here before which fortunately have been deleted. Language should be kept within reasonable bounds as well. Other than for that folk should be allowed to thrash it for as long it takes for the combatants to settle the issue or get worn out by it.

I agree. I was surprised the other thread was locked so soon. No offense, but this place gets pretty boring at times (HELP! - My paint is peeling!), so it's fun to liven things up. Bruce and Lihn's fights back in the day got way out of hand, but beyond that I think it's fine.

Flame wars? In an MB forum?

Really children?

You HAVE to be joking me. If you have a big e-peen, go to one of the other teen-aligned websites and flame war all you want... If you come HERE for entertainment and personal vengeance then you really need to reconsider your hobbies...

I think the title is a little misleading. There's been very few instances of "flame wars" on here. If there wasn't any "entertainment" on this forum then it would just be like the S-class forum = boring with little posting (hey guys, check out my completely stock S-class that I just leased from the dealer. Re: Nice Ride! Re: Yeah, nice!).

This forum should be entertaining and fun, just like the SLK. A "spirited discussion" every once in awhile is good for the forum.

It is true that over the last number of months the flame war problem hasn't been as severe as it was a while back, and I agree that the occasional warm to hot discourse isn't necessarily a bad thing. When it gets to character assassination or just name calling I tend to get a bit “nervous” about letting that go unchallenged.
We have a lot of different people here with different views and backgrounds, some take name calling with a grain of salt, while others take very strong offence to almost anything.

There needs to be some balance, and/or maybe limits, I want you guys to set the limits as to what is reasonable and/or acceptable.

We have the most active SLK site on the web, and I (among others) would like to see it stay that way. If all we have is one pissing contest after another we might end up with the same situation as what you described on the S Class site because no one is interested in a fire fight for no reason.

When a new member with 29 posts comes on here and feels they have the right to put the very cars this foums is about down then the place is heading down a steep slope. I thought it was bad enough that we have a guy who sold his SLK years ago and lives in a very isolated area and is so boored he has to hang around here and when he sees the chance to start a flame war he jumps right in. Yes, Linh, I am talking to you. He will just toss out 2 cents worth of BS and then runs away. Sort of like the guy who graduates from High School but keeps hanging around. Creepy and the act gets old. Ego is what flame wars are all about. Took me going through a few of them to learn it is not worth it. If you have something to say then say it to the mans face but to hide through the internet is like a kid who only shouts from a window but will not come down and get bloody.

Until Linh and others learn how to be civil and put thier egos in check this forum will continue its downward trend. This guy lives a booring life. Nothing to do excpet hang out in a car club he does not own. Fresh blood is what is needed here but it seems this is the "Chat room" that Bill is talking about. It should be about the cars (SLK's) and not about ego driven rants or losers who cannot get on with thier lives.

We do not have to be bored and if you are then change it but flame wars take away from the prestige of the car and what some of us are trying to do.
